Bedic Lodge No. 5915 was consecrated on 18 December 1943, while the country was still at war.
The Lodge was founded by sixteen Freemasons from Penshaw Lodge. Their decision created a new home for Masonic friendship in the community—and began a story that continues more than eighty years later.

What’s in a name?
Bedic reaches much further back.
The published history of the Lodge records that its name was influenced by local history and appears in the Boldon Book.
Completed in 1183, the Boldon Book surveyed the Bishop of Durham’s lands in Durham and Northumberland. It is often described as the “Domesday Book of the North”—giving the Lodge a name rooted in the ancient story of this place.

Bedic continues to meet at Penshaw Masonic Hall, welcoming visitors and new members while preserving the character handed down by its founders.
New ideas—including the Durham Provincial Alphabeteer Challenge—sit alongside longstanding Lodge traditions. They are part of the same continuing story: creating friendships and encouraging men to take an active part in Freemasonry.
