A Craftsman’s Legacy – Sealed-Bid Auction in Memory of Bro Tom Keers

A special opportunity to preserve a piece of Bedic Lodge history and remember a much-loved Brother.

Some possessions are worth far more than their monetary value. They carry memories, tell stories and remind us of the people who once owned them.

Following the sad passing of Bro Thomas William Keers on 29th July 2026, Bedic Lodge No. 5915 has been entrusted with something very special.

Tom’s wife has generously gifted his walking stick to the Lodge. We would now like to give one of our Brethren the opportunity to become its next custodian through a sealed-bid memorial auction.

A Remarkable Craftsman and Brother

Many Brethren will remember Tom as a friendly and familiar face at Bedic Lodge, but beyond Freemasonry, he was also an exceptionally talented and highly respected craftsman.

Tom had a lifelong passion for the traditional art of stick making. He was involved with the British Board of Stick Dressers and helped establish the North East Board, sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with fellow craftsmen.

His remarkable skill earned recognition well beyond the North East, with examples of his craftsmanship finding their way into the hands of members of the Royal Family.

Yet, for those who knew him personally, Tom will be remembered for much more than his extraordinary talent. He was a valued Brother, a friend and someone whose enthusiasm for his craft was infectious.

A Walking Stick with a Special History

The walking stick generously donated by Tom’s wife is a particularly fitting tribute to his life and his connection with Freemasonry.

Featuring a beautifully figured wooden handle and a distinctive Square and Compasses emblem, it is a wonderful example of the craftsmanship for which Tom was so highly regarded.

This is far more than an opportunity to acquire a walking stick. It is a chance to preserve something that belonged to a respected Brother and to ensure his memory continues to be treasured.

How to Take Part – Sealed-Bid Auction

Bedic Lodge invites Brethren wishing to take part to submit their highest bid in a sealed envelope.

To enter:

  1. Complete a bidding slip with your name, Lodge name and number, contact details and bid amount.
  2. Place your completed slip inside a sealed envelope.
  3. Deposit the envelope into the designated auction jar at Bedic Lodge.

All bids will remain sealed until the January Lodge meeting on Wednesday 27th January 2027, when they will be opened and the highest valid bid announced.

The successful bidder will have the privilege of becoming the next custodian of this special piece of Tom’s legacy.

Remembering Tom

We extend our sincere thanks to Tom’s wife for her kindness and generosity in entrusting Bedic Lodge with such a meaningful keepsake.

We hope that wherever the walking stick finds its new home, it will continue to be appreciated, cared for and treasured for many years to come.

Above all, we hope it serves as a lasting reminder of a Brother whose craftsmanship reached far beyond our community, but whose friendship and presence meant so much to those who knew him.

A Brother remembered. A craftsman’s legacy preserved.
