King’s Trust Team Impresses the Masonic Dragons at Farringdon

On Thursday 15 October, another King’s Trust team presented its project proposal to the Masonic Dragons at Farringdon Community Fire Station.

The Freemason Dragons — Fairley Downs, Martin Lawson and Andrew Crow — welcomed the group and offered some initial words of support. However, it soon became clear that the team had everything well in hand as they delivered a confident and polished presentation.

The Dragons were particularly impressed by the team’s adaptability. When asked at short notice to describe the content of their slides aloud for Fairley, who has a visual impairment, the group took the request in its stride and continued without fuss.

Supporting the Youth Almighty Project

The team had chosen to support the Youth Almighty Project, which hosts events at the Old Rectory in Houghton-le-Spring.

Their proposal involved redecorating one of the communal rooms, and they had prepared a carefully costed budget covering paint, materials and equipment. The group explained its plans for the refurbishment through a well-rehearsed presentation and answered the Dragons’ questions with confidence.

Following a short deliberation, the Dragons invited the team back into the room and confirmed that its full proposed budget would be funded, including a small contingency allowance.

The Dragons then went one step further, agreeing to extend their financial support to a total of £800.

The additional funding came with another challenge: the team was asked to use it towards a second project by volunteering at one of the Youth Almighty events, helping to raise the profile of both the King’s Trust and the Youth Almighty Project.

Looking Forward to the Results

The Dragons asked whether they could visit to see the completed refurbishment and are now looking forward to returning to Farringdon Community Fire Station for the team’s final presentation.

The King’s Trust Team Programme provides young people with a fantastic 12-week experience, helping them to develop confidence, teamwork and valuable skills that they can take forward into the wider community.
