W.Bro J.Y.Kelly, PAGDC., PProvJGW stood and presented a detailed and informative background presentation on the Lambton family and the history of the Penshaw Monument (Durham Monument on Penshaw Hill). The presentation included many detailed facts about the life of John George Lambton 1st Earl of Durham (also known as “Radical Jack”) and his masonic career, in addition to the laying of the foundation stone on 28 August 1844, by Thomas Dundas, 2nd Earl of Zetland, in a Masonic Ceremony procession up Penshaw Hill.

W.Bro A.S.Gettings, PPJGW, stood, and presented additional personal information on the Monument in particular his experience of finding an old penny (dated 1844) on Penshaw Hill while walking his dog, an explanation that the Monument is a replica of Temple of Hephaestus in Athens, his involvement conducting tours of the Monument for the National Trust and the brief story of one fatality at the site.

We had a good turnout of visitors and Greetings were received from seven Lodges:

The Lodge was closed in love and harmony at 8.00pm.
